Bonnet Strings Review – Amish but not romantic

Bonnet Strings is the second of Furlong’s memoirs. Her first, Why I Left the Amish, was published in 2011 and describes her return to her Ohio home for her father’s funeral 24 years after she left. Reading the first memoir is not necessary to appreciate the second — although taken together, Furlong’s books provide an important antidote to the highly romanticized portrayal of the Amish to which many readers have become accustomed.
