Craft distilleries the next local booze boom in Pennsylvania Dutch Country?

It’s hard to believe that at one time the U.S. Constitution was amended to ban alchohol! Thankfully those times are long passed and we now are free to choose from a plethora of adult beverages.

I know this must exist somewhere but I have yet to see it in the Deitscherei: A full blown working still as it would’ve appeared during prohibition, in some hidden location. I’d love one of these new distilleries to create one that you could tour as part of a visit to their business along with sampling and direct sales.

Midstate Distillery plans to bottle small batch vodka, rum, and moonshine. Although they admittedly have learned liquor-making on the fly, the process has opened their eyes and taste buds to the possibilities. “There’s so much more to distilled spirits than just rum, vodka, tequila, whiskey,” said Healy. “There’s endless variations, very much like craft beer.”
