Legend has it this structure was built by Hessian prisoners captured by George Washington during his famous raid on Trenton the day after Christmas in 1776.
The Hessian Powder Magazine museum is one stop on the the Historic Carlisle Barracks self-guided walking tour guide. The Hessian museum at Carlisle Barracks is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4:30 p.m.
