Lancaster County’s bilingual heritage: English sprechen?

→ Our bilingual heritage: English sprechen? – LancasterOnline

This article is about a bill in the PA Legislature called The Official Language Act. It caught my attention because it features some translations of Pennsilfaanisch Deitsch place names in Lancaster County.

Just look at our map; German and Native American place names are strewn across it. Should we have to English them all, and make “Manny’s house” out of Manheim, “Street-fort” from Strasburg and, for the sake of state business, erase lovely “Cocalico” and write in “Snake-hole?”
